Asset Store licence
On this page
Gully Studio games are built mostly with content from the Unity Asset Store: models, textures, audio, shaders, tools. That content is licensed under the Unity Asset Store EULA, and the licence decides how game repos are set up.
Heads up
Asset Store content may ship inside a built game. It must never be redistributed as source: not in a public repo, not on a public CDN, not in a published package, not in a mod kit or sample project.
#The rules
| Rule | Why |
|---|---|
| Every game repo is private | the repo holds Asset Store source files; a public repo would redistribute them |
| Licences are per seat | each person who uses an Asset Store package in the editor needs their own licence for it (check each package's licence type) |
Asset Store packages live in Assets/ThirdParty/<package>/ |
one folder per package, so it is clear what came from where |
Assets/ThirdParty/README.md lists every package |
name, publisher, Asset Store link, licence type, seats, who bought it |
| Never copy Asset Store files into a public repo, CDN or package | redistribution as source is not allowed |
No .unitypackage files in git |
the hygiene CI fails the build if one is committed |
#Licence audit
Keep Assets/ThirdParty/README.md current. A row per package:
| Package | Publisher | Link | Licence | Seats | Added by |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Example Pack | Example Publisher | Asset Store URL | Standard Unity Asset Store EULA, per seat | 3 | name |
Review the list before every release (it is step 2 of the release checklist), and when someone joins or leaves the team.
#Open source next to Asset Store content
Open-source code Gully Labs writes or forks lives in its own public repo and is consumed as a package:
These repos contain no Asset Store content, which is what lets them be public. Never add an Asset Store file to them, not even in a sample scene.
#Builds and downloads
- A built game (player binaries, server builds) may contain Asset Store content. That is normal use.
- Do not publish unpacked project files: no "source download", no public asset bundles of raw source assets, no modding SDK that includes Asset Store meshes or textures.
- Server builds stay on Gully infrastructure.
- CI artifacts are private to the repo; do not mirror them to public storage.
#Unity itself
Unity is proprietary software. CI needs a Unity licence (serial or licence server), set as repository secrets, never committed. Open-source tooling is used around Unity, not instead of it. See Release and CI.
